Twin4Twin: Ensuring Long-Term Impact Beyond Project Completion

Turning Research into Visibility, Value, and Long-Term Legacy

As the Twin4Twin project reaches its conclusion, its dissemination and exploitation activities stand out as a strong example of how EU-funded research can extend its impact well beyond the project lifetime. From scientific outputs and large-scale events to open-access resources and concrete exploitation pathways, Twin4Twin successfully translated technical excellence into visibility, stakeholder engagement, and sustainable outcomes.

A Strong, Consortium-Wide Dissemination Effort

The evaluation of the project’s dissemination and communication efforts revealed a strong and positive impact. Led by CORE Innovation Centre (CORE IC), a well-coordinated strategy was implemented in close collaboration with the entire consortium to maximise outreach and ensure that the project’s objectives, progress, and results were communicated effectively to relevant audiences and stakeholders.

The Twin4Twin website, designed and maintained by CORE IC, served as the central hub for project updates and public resources, supported by a strong and consistent presence across social media channels. Over the course of the project, the consortium produced more than13 high-quality videos, published 7 newsletters, issued 8 press releases, published 15 non-scientific media articles, and participated in 5 television interviews. Together, these activities played a key role in sustaining public engagement and enhancing the project’s visibility at European level.

In parallel, the consortium actively engaged with broader stakeholder and research communities through extensive participation in events. Partners took part in 24 events, including conferences, exhibitions, and workshops. These activities included the organisation of two CORE Innovation Days conferences and exhibitions, eight workshops, participation in three international summits and three conferences, delivery of 17 presentations, and participation in seven exhibitions (including two hosted during CORE Innovation Days).

All dissemination actions were carefully aligned with the project phases, ensuring that communication intensity increased as results matured. Engagement ranged from large international conferences to targeted stakeholder workshops, enabling meaningful interaction with researchers, industry representatives, SMEs, policymakers, EU institutions, and other EU-funded projects. This approach strengthened Twin4Twin’s presence within the manufacturing, AI, and digital transformation communities.

Scientific Outputs and Open Science Commitment

Twin4Twin combined broad dissemination with a strong commitment to open science. By the end of the project:

  • 1 scientific paper was published in a peer-reviewed journal

  • 2 additional papers were accepted for international conferences (oral and poster)

  • 4 open-access datasets were published

  • 1 white paper focusing on the project’s use case was released

All datasets and publications were made openly available via Zenodo, ensuring that the project’s knowledge remains accessible to the research and innovation community and supports future reuse and development.

During the final phase of the project, communication and dissemination activities were further intensified to promote the exploitable results across all project channels. Targeted dissemination through the project website (via a dedicated page), social media platforms, newsletters, and press releases aimed to support continued uptake and development of the project outcomes beyond the project’s completion.

CORE Innovation Days: A Flagship Dissemination and Exploitation Platform

A major highlight of the project was the successful design, launch, and scaling of CORE Innovation Days, an international Industry 4.0 conference series organised by CORE Innovation Centre together with the Twin4Twin consortium.

The first CORE Innovation Days, titled “CORE Innovation Days: Shaping Tomorrow’s Industry, Today”, held on 15–16 January 2025 (M25) in Athens, marked the successful launch of the initiative and laid a strong foundation for future editions. The event brought together 126 participants from 17 countries, representing industry, academia, research organisations, public authorities, and EU-funded projects. The conference featured 33 speakers and hosted 54 participants in the closed Proposal Writing Workshop on Day 2. Learn more here.

The second CORE Innovation Days, titled “CORE Innovation Days: From Industry Challenges to Deployed Solutions”, held on 10–11 December 2025 (M36) in Athens, represented a significant step forward in scaling and consolidating the initiative. The event attracted 205 participants from 16 countries, featured 35 speakers, and engaged 56 selected participants in the closed Proposal Writing Workshop on Day 2, further strengthening collaboration and consortium building for future research and innovation activities.  Learn more here.

From Dissemination to Exploitation: Clear Pathways Forward

In parallel with communication activities, the consortium re-assessed, updated and prioritized the exploitable results. For each result, the contributing partners refined the description, clarified target users, confirmed ownership, and selected the most credible exploitation route (research-led or commercial). To make the exploitation strategy scalable, the final set of exploitable results was re-structured into three categories according to their nature: (A) Digital Twins, (B) CORE Partnership Programme, and (C) Research & Innovation Management, see Figure below.

Overview of Twin4Twin Exploitable Results

A Lasting Impact Beyond Project End

Overall, Twin4Twin demonstrated a strong commitment to its Communication, Dissemination, and Exploitation Plan. By combining high-quality research outputs, extensive stakeholder engagement, open-access dissemination, and clearly defined exploitation pathways, the project has laid the foundations for impact beyond its completion, supporting future research, innovation uptake, and collaboration within the European Industry 4.0 ecosystem.
